Happy Year of the Monkey! It must be fate for me, someone born in the Year of the Monkey, to serve as President of CAPST during the Year of the Monkey. I’m honored to serve the Chinese Professional community that I have been closely associated with for a decade.
For this year, our focus is membership. We want to engage our members by serving you in the following ways:
1.Career development – providing networking and job opportunities
2.Entrepreneurship – providing business opportunities and connections both in the US and China
3.Community service – seminars that benefit both our members and Houston local community
We also want to grow our membership in the following ways:
1.Expand our outreach in medical and bio-tech field. Houston has the world’s largest medical center, with hundreds of top Chinese medical experts. We want to reach out to them, and invite them to join CAPST. We also want the hospitals and medical schools to become our sponsors and corporate members.
2.Expand our outreach in hi-tech field. I will work closely with our Computer Committee Chair Dr. Yaohua Xiong to recruit my former colleagues at HP.
3.Expand CAPST to College Station by establishing a branch there. Texas A&M University is located in College Station, with many Chinese professionals in Science and Technology.
To facilitate all these efforts, we’re revamping our website, with a new look and more functions. It’s coming soon. We’ll also use more social media, such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Wechat to communicate to our members. Please feel free to contact me or any of my board members with any CAPST related issues or suggestions. We welcome your feedback and involvement! We want this year to be a year of growth. Thank you for your support!
Wishing you great success in 2016!
2016 CAPST President
